Man charged over row at scene of fatal crash

A man broke through a number of police cordons set up around the scene of a fatal road accident in west Belfast on Monday and swore at PSNI officers, the High Court heard.

A prosecution lawyer said Joseph Peoples (30), from Lenadoon Avenue in Belfast, sped past police lines on the Andersonstown Road on his bicycle, only a few yards from where screens had been erected around the body of a man who had been knocked down by a lorry. The court heard Peoples shouted, “F..k off. I'm away to get my broo.”

When stopped, he tried to headbutt a police officer and to bite another one. He is charged with disorderly behaviour and assault.

Mr Justice Maguire refused bail after hearing Peoples was on bail after two other attacks on police.
