The man, 47, was arrested in Craigavon, Co Armagh on Wednesday during a search operation by detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's serious crime branch.
He will appear in court in Lisburn on Saturday charged with possession of a firearm and explosives with intent to endanger life.
He will also face counts of possessing ammunition and items likely to be of use to terrorists.
