A man who called a police officer a “fenian traitor” before punching him has been fined £200.
Michael Frazer (27), of Harbour View in Londonderry, admitted being disorderly and assaulting police on December 27 last.
Derry Magistrates Court was told that officers were called to a local bar after reports of Frazer acting in a disorderly manner.
He was arrested and as he was taken to the police station he called an officer a “fenian traitor” and punched him.
Frazer later told police that due to his intoxicated state he had acted out of character.
A defence solicitor said that he had been socialising for Christmas and was not used to drink. He said he wished to apologise to the officer and added that he had no recollection of the incidents.
