A man who had been on trial for grooming a schoolgirl has admitted sexually assaulting the girl.
Co Antrim man Edward Stuart Cambridge (21) pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the 12-year-old some time between December 31, 2010 and February 1, 2011.
Following the guilty plea at Belfast Crown Court, prosecuting lawyer Amanda Brady applied to have a charge of meeting a child following sexual grooming and a further count of sexual assault “left on the books”. The court had heard that Cambridge got the girl's mobile phone number and began texting her before he asked her to meet him at his mother's home, where he kissed her.
The jury was told Cambridge's alleged relationship with the girl ended when text messages were discovered on her mobile phone.
Adjourning passing sentence until next month when pre-sentence probation reports have been completed, Judge Gordon Kerr QC released Cambridge on continuing bail.
