A woman wept in court as a 41-year-old old man pleaded guilty to sexually abusing her over a 10-year period starting in 1985.
The defendant, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victim, initially denied several of the charges against him and was due to stand trial for them.
But when he was re-arraigned before Judge Piers Grant at the Crown Court in Londonderry yesterday, he pleaded guilty to 13 charges, seven indecent assaults on a female child and six of gross indecency with the same girl.
A defence barrister said the defendant, at his own request, wanted his bail revoked.
“He accepts the inevitability of a custodial sentence and he wants to start that process immediately,” the barrister said.
Judge Grant ordered the preparation of pre-sentence and psychiatric reports before he sentences the defendant on January 9.
The defendant was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register immediately.
