Man guilty of gay sex assault

A 21-year-old Londonderry man has been handed a 12-month suspended sentence for sexually assaulting another man while he lay sleeping.

Mark Gormley, of Knoxhill Park in the Prehen area, admitted the two offences, which took place on April 14, 2009.

Earlier the court had been told that after a party the injured party, another man and the defendant went back to the injured party's house.

The victim fell asleep on the sofa and when he woke up he found Gormley lying on top of him fondling him.

He threw Gormley out of the house after striking him a number of times.

Gormley was arrested and during interviews denied having done anything. Once it was put to him that there was DNA analysis he admitted the offences.
