Man held on dissident terror charge

The Police Service of Northern Ireland has charged a suspected dissident republican

A 38-year-old man has been charged with directing a dissident republican terrorist organisation.

The accused was arrested in north Belfast on Friday by detectives investigating the activities of dissidents in Londonderry.

He was charged today by detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Serious Crime Branch.

As well as a count of directing a terrorist organisation, he also faces a charge of membership of a proscribed organisation.

He is due to appear before Londonderry Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Dissidents opposed to the peace process in Northern Ireland continue to wage a sporadic campaign of violence in the region, with Derry bearing the brunt of a number of their operations.
