Man in court over mother's murder

A man accused of stabbing his mother to death in Connor, Co Antrim, has been remanded in custody accused of her murder

A man accused of stabbing his mother to death on Mother's Day has appeared in court charged with her murder.

John Charles Coburn allegedly killed 53-year-old Lynn Coburn in the Co Antrim village of Connor on Sunday.

The 33-year-old is also charged with attempting to murder his younger brother Andrew Coburn, 31, in the same incident at a house in the Rossburn Manor development.

The accused, from Rossburn Manor, appeared in the dock of Antrim Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Balding and thick-set, wearing a navy blue T-shirt, Coburn spoke only to confirm his name during the brief hearing.

Detective Sergeant Tom Kennedy told District Judge Robert Alcorn that he could connect the accused with the two charges.

His solicitor made no application for bail.

District Judge Alcorn remanded Coburn in custody for four weeks to appear at Ballymena Magistrates' Court via video link.
