A 62-year-old-man who admitted sexually abusing two girls who were later to become his step-daughters has been jailed for 18 months.
A judge at Londonderry Crown Court ordered that he be put on probation for three years, placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and ordered not to have unsupervised access to children.
The defendant’s name cannot be revealed to protect the identities of his victims, who were primary school age when the 10-year period of abuse began in 1993.
He married the girls' mother and continued to abuse them when he was their step-father.
Passing sentence, Judge Piers Grant said he noted the defendant “continues to have the support of your wife who is the mother of these two children”.
The girls' mother wept in court as her children’s abuser was jailed after admitting a total of 24 charges of indecent assault.
