JAIL: Rowdy drunk Gordon Deery

A drunk who “inappropriately” touched a police woman in the back of a patrol car has been jailed for eight months.

Rowdy thug Gordon Deery put his hands on the officer’s thigh and chest after being arrested for disorderly conduct outside a supermarket in Enniskillen.

When the woman cop fended off the 47-year-old lowlife he tried to hit her and spat at both her and a male colleague.

Deery, of Willowvale in the lakeland town, appeared in the dock at Fermanagh Court last week to admit assaulting the officer and her male colleague. He also admitted assaulting a man and attempting to damage a car belonging to a woman.

The court how Deery was arrested after cops received reports of two men causing a disturbance, first at Tesco in Enniskillen and then Asda on June 10.

Deery had assaulted a Tesco customer who had been sitting outside the store in his vehicle.

By the time the officers arrived at the scene Deery and the other man were heading towards the nearby Asda store and police received a report that he had kicked a vehicle in

Asda's car park.

Deery was verbally abusive towards the police and continued to be verbally abusive towards the officers when he was placed in a police car.

He touched the policewoman who was sitting beside him in the back of the car “inappropriately”, holding her hand and putting his hand on her thigh and chest. When she fended him off he tried to hit her in the face.

The prosecutor said the policewoman then swapped places with her male colleague and took over the driving. Deery spat in the male police officer's face and on the back of her head.

Defence barrister Heather Philips said Deery had taken a significant amount of alcohol and had no recollection of his behaviour. Miss Philips said Deery had a “very long” criminal record and is currently serving a three-month prison sentence imposed on him at Coleraine Court for disorderly behaviour.

District Judge Liam McNally jailed Deery for four months and activated a four-month suspended prison sentence for theft.
