A Northern Ireland MP has begun treatment for depression after admitting a long-term battle with the medical condition.
Michelle Gildernew, who represents Fermanagh and South Tyrone, spoke out last year about suffering depression. She told of the effect on her mental health being asked by her party to stand aside both as an MLA and as chair of the Stormont health committee.
The Sinn Fein representative revealed this week she has been receiving medical treatment and said a hoax bomb alert at her home would not impact on the progress she is making. “You have to keep strong,” she told the Impartial Reporter.
“I am getting counselling and it is doing me the world of good.”
