Milk Cup match halted after teen collapses

A Milk Cup football match was dramatically stopped last night after a young player collapsed in the opening minutes.

Around seven minutes after the 7pm kick-off in the game between counties Londonderry and Antrim, 17-year-old Christopher McNeill collapsed.

He was revived on the pitch and then taken to the Causeway Hospital for medical treatment.

The game restarted in Mullaghcall, Portstewart, after Christopher's parents insisted it continue.

A spokesman for the youth football tournament, Jim Sandford, was emotional when he spoke of the incident last night.

"The boy received first-class treatment at the ground from the doctor and the St John Ambulance staff who were there," he said.

The boy's condition is described as "stable".
