The keys have been handed over to the residents of a new £10m housing project in Londonderry.
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland cut the ribbon at Cecilia’s Walk in Creggan.
The new estate of 53 houses and eight apartments has been built on the former United Technologies factory site at Bligh’s Lane. The new homes have been allocated to families and older people from the housing waiting list.
The two and three-bedroom accommodation has been designed to high energy efficiency specifications, with built-in security features and flexibility if adaptation is required at a later date.
An open green space with mature trees has been retained from the original site and the scheme also incorporates a children’s play area.
Speaking during his visit, minister McCausland said: “The building of 61 new homes in this area of high housing need, on what was a long-standing derelict site, is a magnificent achievement and contributes significantly to the regeneration of this part of the city.”
