Motorist hijacked at knifepoint in north Belfast

A driver was threatened with a knife as his car was being hijacked in north Belfast near the city centre at the weekend.

At around 6pm on Saturday two men approached a car in the Brown Square area and opened the driver's door.

The blue Nissan Primera car had stopped at the junction of Gardiner Street and Peter's Hill.

One of the men then threatened the male driver with a knife.

He was pulled from the car while the two men got in and drove off.

At around 6.20pm, the car was reported on fire in the Whitehouse area of the Shore Road in Newtownabbey.

The male hijackers were described as both around 6ft tall, of medium build and wearing dark clothing with black hats and scarves covering their faces.
