East Belfast MP Naomi Long: No one has the right to use the threat of violence

East Belfast MP Naomi Long has hit out at those behind threats to burn down a community centre that hosted an event involving a convicted IRA bomber.

A series of menacing messages were posted on social media since the appearance of Brighton Bomber Patrick Magee at the Skainos Centre in east Belfast.

There are concerns some of those behind the threats are affiliated with the UVF.

Around 100 people also threw stones and other missiles at the building as Magee prepared to take part in a discussion evening.

Ms Long described the threats as sinister in the extreme. "No one has the right to use the threat of violence to stop people from doing what they want, within legal and moral reason," she said.
