NI Water fined for blockage

NI Water has been fined £2,500 after pleading guilty to a blockage in the sewerage system.

The resulting discharge breach happened at the Carron Road sewage pumping station in Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, on September 11, 2009, and was followed by a failure in the alarm system.

A spokesman for NI Water stated that the blockage had been caused by “a large amount of inappropriate items, which the sewerage system is not designed to cope with”.
