No link between two E coli outbreaks at restaurant

Public health experts have not been able to prove any connection between two E.coli outbreaks at the same restaurant within three months.

It emerged yesterday the biggest outbreak of E coli 0157 to ever hit Northern Ireland is a different strain from that identified at the same restaurant in north Belfast in August.

Both outbreaks have been linked to Flicks restaurant at Cityside shopping centre — which closed voluntarily on October 11.

The current Flicks outbreak has affected 29 confirmed victims with another 202 probable cases yet to be confirmed.

But yesterday, the PHA said results from tests suggest the two incidents are not linked.
