A teacher killed in a road accident on her way to work has been laid to rest.

Lauren Minford, who was in her mid-20s, died when her car was in collision with a lorry on the Moneygran Road in Portglenone as she travelled to work on Friday morning.

The popular teacher from Ahoghill, near Ballymena, was a teacher at Culcrow Primary School in Aghadowey.

Miss Minford taught pupils in primary five, six and seven at Culcrow and had been working at the school since last September.

Leading the mourners during her funeral at St Patrick's Church of Ireland in Ballymena was her father Jackson Minford, a senior official with the Roads Service traffic management unit, mother Alison, sister Emma and her boyfriend.

North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey is a close family friend.

He said words could not describe the grief being felt by the Minford family.

"There is no doubt Jackson was very devoted to his two girls, Lauren and Emma," he said. "He was so proud of Lauren and how things were looking up for her. She was teaching and loved it."

Miss Minford was the granddaughter of the late Nat Minford, a South Antrim MP and Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly in the 1980s.

Following the news of her death, the school released a statement saying pupils and staff were devastated.
