A 78-year-old woman has been robbed while sitting in her parked car in Belfast.

The robbery took place in the Cotswold Avenue area of Castlereagh at around 4pm on Friday afternoon.

A man forced open the door of the victim's parked car before stealing her handbag, which contained cash and bank cards.

The woman received bruising to her hand but did not require any medical attention.

She is said to have been left distressed by the incident.

Her attacker is described as being in his late teens or early 20s, around 5'8" tall, of thin build and with short black hair.

Police said he was wearing a green hooded top, jeans and dark coloured Converse trainers.

It's thought the robber came from a white Ford Transit van which was parked in the Coolpark Avenue area.

There were two other males in the van. The driver is described as being aged in his mid 30s, was bald and had a goatee beard. The van is believed to have made off in the direction of Carnbrae Avenue.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
