Pharmacy closure plans slammed

A councillor has voiced his concerns at plans to end Sunday pharmacy services in the Newcastle, Dundrum and Castlewellan areas of Co Down.

Alliance’s Patrick Clarke has written to the Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) to voice his serious opposition to the proposals, which would leave only pharmacists in Kilkeel and Downpatrick to serve the Down area.

Mr Clarke said he believes the removal of such an important frontline health service to patients would cause inconvenience and distress for those most vulnerable and in need of urgent medication during out-of-hours pharmacy services.

Mr Clarke, who believes it is another cost-saving exercise at the expense of patients, said the plans should be seriously reconsidered.
