Police probe link to armed raids

Detectives in Antrim are investigating a possible link between armed robberies at two separate commercial premises at the weekend.

In the first incident, a man wearing a balaclava and carrying a firearm entered a shop in the Dublin Road area of the town at around 4.40pm on Sunday before fleeing on foot with a quantity of cigarettes.

In the second incident two men, one armed with a firearm and both wearing balaclavas, entered a commercial property in the Greystone Shopping Centre at about 11.15pm on Sunday.

Cash was taken and it is believed the men made off on foot towards the Greystone estate.

The PSNI said there were no reports of any injuries in either incident, but staff members, caught up in both robberies, were left badly shaken.

The first man was described as around 5ft 8ins tall, of slim build and wearing a grey hooded top and grey track suit bottoms with white trainers.

The second was approx 5ft 9ins tall, of medium build, wearing a black coat.

Anyone with any information about either of these incidents is asked to contact CID in Newtownabbey on 0845 600 8000.
