Police tasered a youth in North Belfast tonight (Tuesday) after an officer was injured by a gang of teens brandishing iron bars and knives.

The PSNI were called to a property at Alexandra Park Avenue at about tea time after a car was vandalised.

The teenagers were reported to be in possession of iron bars and knives.

When police entered the property they called on the youths to put down their weapons.

"In the ensuing events one officer sustained injuries to his hand and face and a taser was used on one of the youths," said a spokesman.

Five teens were arrested and the Police Ombudsman's office was informed.
