Priest shows gay porn at school's First Communion meeting: inquiry result due

Fr Martin McVeigh

The outcome of an investigation into a priest who accidentally showed gay pornography during a presentation at a school is expected to be revealed tonight.

Church leaders will travel to Pomeroy to speak to parents about the explicit images shown by the parish priest, Fr Martin McVeigh, during a First Communion meeting last month.

Officials in the Diocese of Armagh have been investigating since the incident occurred at St Mary’s Primary School in the Co Tyrone village on March 26.

Around 30 parents and an eight-year-old boy were present when 16 explicit images of men appeared on a large screen from a flash drive which Fr McVeigh had inserted into a laptop.

But the priest insists he has no idea how the images came to be stored on the device.

It is understood an investigation by church authorities has now been completed.

A diocese spokesman declined to comment on when the findings will be released, referring to a statement from Cardinal Brady last Sunday which said the inquiry would conclude "presently".

Fr McVeigh was also unavailable for comment.

However, in an interview last week, he said he hoped to proclaim his "innocence" in the near future.
