Probe launched after man attacked

Police have launched an investigation following a serious assault that left a man with a fractured skull.

The incident happened at around 7.30pm on Tuesday in the Newton Park area of Belfast.

The victim, 47, was struck a heavy blow to the back of the head after getting out of his car.

He was knocked unconscious and taken to hospital with his injuries.

Detectives in Castlereagh have appealed for anyone who may have seen the attack to come forward.
