A man who carried out a racist attack on a street trader in Belfast city centre has been jailed for five months.
David Godfrey assaulted Mousa Gulusen, shouted a tirade of abuse at him and kicked over his stall, causing over £500 worth of damage, Belfast Magistrates Court heard.
A solicitor for Godfrey (20), of Utility Street, Belfast, said he had entered guilty pleas and claimed he was so drunk he had "no recollection" of the incident last December.
But prosecutors told a judge that his offences were aggravated by a racial motivation.
The court heard he had shouted "Paki b******" and "F*** off back to your own country."
District Judge Fiona Bagnall said: "Given the fact this is a clearly racially-motivated attack he is facing immediate custody."
He was given five months' jail for the criminal damage and concurrent terms for disorderly behaviour and assault.
