The future of a Royal British Legion club has been safeguarded — for the next three months at least.
The Coleraine club still faces an uncertain future after 80 years due to a dwindling membership and lack of income.
Following a meeting to discuss options, John Lindsay, a member and former chair of the Coleraine Royal British Legion branch, said everyone associated with the club is determined to ensure it survives.
“It was decided at the meeting we would give it three months and see how it goes,” he said. “We are going to try and attract members back in again.’’
“We had a very good turnout of members and everything was positive,’’ he said.
“They don’t want to see it close and they are prepared to support it.
“We are very optimistic.”
The club has already taken steps in an attempt to cut costs, including closing facilities during the week, but it is still struggling to make ends meet.
