Same sex unions offensive, says DUP's Clarke

South Antrim MLA Trevor Clarke has said the redefinement of marriage laws which would recognise same sex unions would “deeply upset and offend many people in our society”.

Mr Clarke has written to the Equality Minister at Westminster to forward the views of his constituents outraged by proposed changes.

“It is evident that the prospect of the institution of marriage being ‘redefined’ will deeply upset and offend many people in our society, especially those of a Christian faith,” Mr Clarke said.

“Statistics show that over 70% of people in the UK want to keep marriage as it is, with several hundred thousand individuals having signed a petition against Government proposals,” he said in the Antrim Times.
