A school of dolphins has been captured on camera by a Co Antrim couple out for a Sunday drive.

Maria and Thomas Lehd from Larne noticed the dolphins following the coast from Ballygally to Glenarm at around 3.30pm on Sunday.

The Lehds tracked them for an hour-and-a-half and took a series of photographs, which they shared with the 3,254 members of the Memories of Larne Facebook group.

Last night, Maria told the Belfast Telegraph she counted about 20 dolphins but is sure there were more

“We followed them until they got out to Carnlough where they started going further out to sea,” she said.

“They were beautiful; it was lovely to see them and share them with Memories of Larne.

“We took similar photographs about a year-and-a-half ago and shared them on the group too.

“Memories of Larne is great for old and new photographs and it’s lovely to hear from people you have known from years ago.”

Brother and sister, Liam Kelly and Fiona Holland, from Larne, are administrators of the cross-community group site, along with their childhood friend Joe Gillespie.

Fiona said: “Maria’s photographs have generated lots of interest among our members.

“It’s one of the most popular posts we have ever had on the site.

“We in Larne are very lucky to have such breathtaking scenery right on our doorstep.”
