A viable explosive device has been discovered in north Belfast.

The find prompted a security alert in the Cherrylands area of Newtownabbey on Monday morning, with a number of homes being evacuated.

Army technical officers carried out a controlled explosion as they made the area safe.

The roads have been reopened and residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
