Police have said an object that caused a security alert in Belfast city centre was an elaborate hoax.

Donegall Square West, Upper Queen Street and Wellington Street were cordoned off close to the city hall this morning.

Army bomb experts attended the scene and the Donegall Square West side of the Christmas market was evacuated.

All streets have now reopened.
