Sinn Fein MLA Alex Maskey has said there can be no escape route for any party when it comes to finding answers to the sensitive questions of parades, flags and the past.
He was speaking at a conference in Belfast under the heading A Better Friday Agreement organised by the republican ex-prisoner project Coiste na nlarchimi.
Mr Maskey was among a panel of speakers including former controller of prisons John Steele, Martin Mansergh, who had a key Dublin role in the developing peace process, loyalists Jackie McDonald and William Smith, and SDLP Assembly member Conall McDevitt.
On the questions of parades, flags and the past, Mr Maskey warned the search for solutions should not be left to the First and Deputy First Ministers.
“All parties have to play their role in this,” he said.
“No one has an escape route.
“All the parties have to get back round the table on these issues.”
The UUP, DUP and Alliance party were sent invitations to yesterday’s conference but did not attend.
