Mobile banking usage in Northern Ireland has risen by 50% among smartphone users over the past year, according to research carried out for Ulster Bank.
Nearly all mobile banking app users said that they used it to check their balance, a quarter paid bills, and 35% transferred money.
Brian Allen, Ulster Bank's head of direct banking, said: "Northern Ireland consumers are recognising the convenience offered by banking on the move, and mobile banking usage is growing at a very fast pace as a result."
The survey of smartphone users was carried out at the end of July. More than 400 people participated in the research, including a representative sample of age groups, geographic regions and gender.
The Consumer Council last week expressed concern about access to bank branches for older and rural people, with many closing recently, and said around 13% did not have an account.
