St Patrick's Day carnival carnival 'to be best ever'

The North West Carnival Initiative is calling on people to get involved in this year's St Patrick's Day carnival parade so that the celebrations during the City of Culture year are the best ever.

The group wants community groups, schools, youth groups, students, performers, individuals and artists to help get out and take audiences on a journey across land, sea and sky to discover wonderful and magical worlds.

A programme of events is planned for the weekend of March 17 which will be released in the coming week.

Following the huge success of last year's festivities, it is anticipated that this year there will be even more visitors to Derry.

Carnival development officer at Derry City Council Sharon Meenan said: “We are encouraging as many people as possible to come on board and take part in the St Patrick’s Day parade.”
