Superb line-up proves why Derry is Europe’s top spot for Halloween

As the countdown to Europe’s premier Halloween celebrations continues, locals and tourists will be wondering what exactly the north west has to offer that day — and into the scary night.

Before then there are dozens of attractions in the build-up to Halloween itself which can be found on the council’s website.

But, from 1-5pm on the day, an electric atmosphere is guaranteed as Teenage Spooks brings the cream of the city’s renowned performing talent to the Guildhall Square.

There will be stunning performances, featuring bands of all kinds, inventive dance troupes, superb individual artists and all that’s hot on the street.

Face painting and balloon modelling will add to the carnival atmosphere.

This big event is the spooktacular Halloween concert in Guildhall Square from 4-10pm, featuring Paul Casey, Her Majesty & The Wolves and The Killers Of Leon.

Co Derry-born Paul Casey is fast winning an enviable reputation as one of the most striking singer-songwriters on either side of the Atlantic following a series of highly acclaimed US performances.

An exceptional slide guitarist with a rare gift for creating memorable tunes, his distinctive voice, sharp lyrics and infectious music are winning fans all over the world.

Her Majesty & The Wolves, a world-beating combination of ex-Pussycat Dolls star Kimberly Wyatt and top hip-hop dancer/producer/songwriter and MC Spencer Nezey, create a kaleidoscopic fusion of euphoric pop, heavy synths, tribal house, and next-generation hip-hop.

Still in their infancy, formed following Kimberly’s departure from The Pussycat Dolls in 2010, the duo’s fast moving live show has already made huge waves in the music world.

If you love The Killers and Kings Of Leon, here’s your chance to see both at the same time as one of Ireland’s finest tribute bands perfectly recreate the chart-topping anthems and live performances of two of the biggest bands in the world today. The Banks of the River Foyle sees the Halloween ‘Carnival of Lights’ Parade.

The assembly point is Derry City Council car park at 7pm before the parade travels towards Strand Road.

It will then turn left towards the City Hotel and move along Queens Quay before returning to the car park. Recommended viewing points are along Strand Road and Queens Quay.

This year will also mark the 25th anniversary of the Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival, so a ‘silver lining’ theme will run throughout the procession.

So why not join in and enjoy the luminous pageants, fiery costumes and carnival performances. Or dance along to the samba and marching bands and marvel at the magnificent silvery large-scale props and carnival characters.

The ‘Blanket Earth Walks The World — 2011-2016' will also be participating in this year’s Carnival.

Over 300 schoolchildren, representing nine schools throughout Co Derry, will participate in the first walk in the city, taking the message of Love, Hope, Change, Kindness, Peace and Happiness to the world by creating the globe’s biggest blanket and presenting it to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in 2016.

The Carnival Fireworks will take place at 8pm on the riverfront where internationally-renowned display company Walk the Plank will amaze and astound with their 15- to 20-minute spectacular firework display, backed up with a stunning soundtrack and visual images. Prepare to be amazed.
