Technical glitch hits customers at Northern Bank

More than 350,000 Northern Bank transactions were hit by a glitch yesterday following a minor incident, the company said.

The problem was detected at 8.40am and resolved just over two hours later, with operations back to normal by 10.42am.

A Northern Bank spokesman confirmed 289,000 debit transactions and 65,000 credit transactions were affected.

“Due to a technical issue, some Northern Bank customers experienced a delay in payments being processed to their accounts,” he said. “We are currently awaiting a full analysis report of the number of customers impacted, however we can say that around 65,000 credit transactions and 289,000 debit transactions were temporarily affected.

“The issue was quickly rectified and all accounts were returned to normal.”

The news comes just days after the Ulster Bank revealed details of its £28m compensation package for clients who suffered major disruption after a massive computer meltdown which began four months ago.
