Teenage girl in critical condition following Co Antrim car crash

An 18-year-old man has been arrested after a teenage girl was left in a critical condition following a car crash in Co Antrim on Monday night.

The 17-year-old was a passenger in a blue Renault Clio which collided with a black Hyundai Santa Fe shortly before 9pm on the Slaughterford Road, Whitehead.

She was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.

A 39-year-old female and a 17-year-old male were also injured and taken to hospital, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The Slaughterford Road remains closed this morning (Tuesday) and motorists are advised to seek alternative main routes for their journey.

Witnesses are asked to contact police in Newtownabbey on the non-emergency number, 101.
