Teenager beaten unconscious by gang outside Ulster nightclub

Police are appealing for information regarding a horrific assault in which a teenager was beaten unconscious.

The 17-year-old was set upon outside a nightclub on the Rock Road in Londonderry on Thursday.

At around 1.25am the victim was attacked by a group of men and was left unconscious.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries. Meanwhile, in a separate incident less than an hour earlier another 17-year-old was attacked outside a pub on the Dungiven Road in the city.

The victim was assaulted by a group of up to four men at around 12.30am.

He was beaten around the head before being pushed against a parked car.

He then had his arm smashed through a window of the car.

He was treated in hospital for injuries and required several stitches to his arm.

The incidents are just the latest in a series of unconnected late night disturbances which occurred in the north west over the Christmas period. An appeal was issued yesterday for information regarding a fight that occurred at the junction of Strand Road and Sackville Street in Derry on Sunday, December 23.

Shortly before midnight, two men were involved in an altercation and were assaulted.

Police arrived on the scene and recovered three knives.

A 43-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were arrested for possession of an offensive weapon and disorderly behaviour.

Both have been released pending further police enquiries.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed either assault or the brawl, or anyone who was in these areas at the time, to contact them at Strand Road station on 0845 600 8000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
