Top Irish communist Jimmy Stewart dies

The Ballymena-born former leader of the Communist Party of Ireland (CPI) has died.

Jimmy Stewart, born in 1934, was also editor of Unity, the Communist Party newspaper.

The former Ballymena Academy pupil taught history and art in Somerdale school on the Shankill Road.

He later became a full-time worker for the CPI.
