Detectives investigating the murder of Hillsborough man Ronald Todd have arrested two men.

Mr Todd, 30, was beaten and tied up before being thrown in a river.

He was last seen leaving a pub on Maghaberry Road outside Lisburn at about 8pm on December 21 2005.

His body was recovered from the River Lagan close to Governor's Bridge in Belfast on February 14 2006.

Mr Todd's red Land Rover Freelander vehicle was found burning at Green Road outside Lisburn on the day after his disappearance.

The suspects, aged 32 and 44, were detained by police on Tuesday.

A number of previous arrests have been made during the investigation, but no-one has been charged in connection with the murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Karen Baxter, who is leading the investigation, said: "Ronald Todd suffered a brutal death, having been beaten and bound before being dumped into the river. No-one deserves to die in such a way.

"Those responsible are still at large and it is essential that anyone with information about the murder gives that information to police.

"Detectives are continuing to follow a number of lines of inquiry but the investigation would be assisted if people with knowledge about what happened to Mr Todd six years ago came forward."
