Two men have been jailed for an assault in which the victim was bashed over the head with a mug tree.
Mark McShane (35) and Stephen Arbuckle (43) admitted assaulting the victim with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm on March 6 last year.
Derry Crown Court heard the pair, of Barnwell Place, Londonderry, were drinking in a block of flats where the injured party, who sometimes drank with them, lived. A dispute arose and Arbuckle grabbed the man while McShane hit him on the head with a mug tree.
The man ran into the street but Arbuckle caught him and McShane kicked him in the head and stood on his face.
Judge Piers Grant said that McShane had been assessed as being a danger to the public. He said Arbuckle had a serious drink problem but was not deemed a risk to the public.
Judge Grant sentenced McShane to an indeterminate four- year sentence. Arbuckle was sentenced to three years.
