Two pipe-bombs have been discovered on the windowsill of a house in Co Antrim.

Army bomb experts carried out controlled explosions on the devices earlier this afternoon following the alert in the Dehra Gardens, Garryduff Road area of Ballymoney.

Officers responded to a report of two suspicious devices on the windowsill of a house at about 4.50am this morning.

Garryduff Church Hall was opened for families who had to leave their homes during the operation.

Local residents have been allowed to return to their homes and the Garryduff Road has re-opened to traffic.

North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey, who lives in Ballymoney, spent the morning at the scene.

He hit out at the recklessness of the attack.

"It has brought undue attention for all the wrong reasons to an area of Ballymoney which has been peaceful and quiet for many, many years," he said.

"The people of the area do not need this type of disruption, they want to continue to live in peace and quiet.

"This has been a real shock to them and it has caused a lot of disruption, given the fact you’re talking about a fair number of senior citizens."

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
