Two shops targeted in early morning robbery bids

A gang of men have robbed a shop in east Belfast only minutes after a botched theft at a nearby supermarket.

Police are appealing for information after three men - with scarves covering their faces - made off with cigarettes in the Belmont Church Road area this morning.

At around 8.40am the three men entered the shop and stole a small quantity of cigarettes while another stayed in a dark green car.

This car is believed to have KAZ as part of its registration number.

But only 10 minutes earlier three men attempted to rob a supermarket in the Newtownards Road area. They made off empty handed and are believed to have got into a car in the Dee Street area.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about either incident to contact them.
