Fallen tycoon Sean Quinn snr made a rare public appearance at a GAA match at the weekend.

The 65-year-old had not been seen in public since his release from prison in early January.

Family friends say his ongoing legal battle with former Anglo Irish Bank, now renamed IBRC, has 'taken its toll' on him.

Mr Quinn was at Brewster Park in Enniskillen on Saturday night to watch his native Fermanagh take on Monaghan. The visitors went on to beat the Ernemen by 0-14 to 0-12.

"He appeared to be in good form," said one fan. "He was laughing and chatting away and people were going up to him all the time to shake his hand and wish him well."

It was the first game involving Fermanagh that the former Quinn Group boss attended this year. He usually attends all home matches.

"The legal battle and the time in jail has had a deep effect on Sean," said one family friend.

"After getting out of jail he promised his family he would take it easy. They are worried about his health. He's 65 now and needs to learn to slow down, which is hard for a man who has worked at a hundred miles per hour all of his life."
