Guns and explosives have been found by police investigating dissident republican activity in Londonderry.

Detectives from the PSNI's serious crime branch discovered the haul during a raid in the Beechwood area of the city.

Earlier a 39-year-old man was arrested in Derry as part of a separate police probe into dissident activity.

He was taken to the PSNI's serious crime suite at Antrim for questioning.

A PSNI spokeswoman said investigations were continuing.
