Wintry weather sees schools closed

Primary schools are closed and travel has been disrupted by snow

Dozens of primary schools in rural areas of Northern Ireland have been forced to close amid the wintry weather.

Mid-Ulster was one of the hardest hit regions - with schools staying closed as temperatures dropped to as low as minus 8C.

Several feet of snow fell in the Sperrin Mountains in Co Tyrone and Co Londonderry.

With salt supplies running low, minor roads remained in a treacherous condition because of the frost and black ice.

Flights from Belfast International Airport to Gatwick were also hit.
