Woman arrested over Christmas bomb attack on police officer

The Upper Newtownards Road in Belfast was closed as army technical experts dealt with a 'viable bomb' found under a police officer's car.

A 25-year-old woman has been arrested and released in connection with a bomb attack on a police officer last year.

She was detained by officers from the PSNI's serious crime branch in north Belfast on Thursday morning and taken to Antrim for questioning.

The police constable was preparing to take his wife and two children out for Sunday lunch on December 30 when he discovered a device under his car at his home in Upper Newtownards Road in east Belfast.

Senior officers said the attack could have killed the policeman and his family.

The woman has been released pending a report to the PPS.
