Woman hospitalised after falling under train at halt

A woman has been struck by a train at a railway halt near Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

It is understood the woman fell onto the tracks just before 1.40pm yesterday at Clipperstown, just as a train was arriving at the stop.

She was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew, who found her partially under the train, before being taken to hospital for treatment. It is understood her injuries were not life-threatening.

Translink has said a full investigation into the incident is under way.

The last serious incident on a rail line was in June when a 35-year-old man was killed outside Ballymena. In February, a man died on the railway line at a crossing north of Ballymoney.
