A woman was slashed in the hand by a knife-wielding masked man during an attack in north Belfast.

It happened in the Yorkgate Centre area at around 8.30am on Thursday morning, after a man approached the driver of a parked van.

The female victim suffered a cut to her finger on her right hand during the incident.

Her injuries are not thought to be serious.

Nothing was taken during the attempted robbery. It's understood the attacker made off towards the North Queen Street area.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 101.
