Saint Patrick's Day was a truly global event this year – with iconic landmarks and buildings across the world 'going green'.

As people enjoyed a fun-filled day in Northern Ireland, our international friends and neighbours celebrated too.

The outstretched wings of the Angel of the North in Gateshead looked wonderful lit up green and the usually drab Battersea Power Station in south London alsobenefited from an injection of colour.

To mark the March 17 festivities, The London Eye was another iconic landmark shining in emerald for 24 hours, as part of a drive by Tourism Ireland to promote Ireland as a welcoming destination.

As President Obama hosted the newly elected Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny for America's annual Saint Patrick's Day celebrations, the water gushing from the fountain on the south lawn of the White House in Washington DC was also a lush shade of green.

One of the world's tallest hotels, The Burj Al Arab, cut a striking figure on Dubai's skyline as it went green for the day and our friends in France also got in on the act, as the famous windmill of The Moulin Rouge in Paris was transformed to The Moulin Vert.
