Police have said they are investigating after a picture of young girl with a sectarian slogan painted on her forehead was posted to social media.
The image of the girl - who is believed to be just five years old and from Belfast - has KAT written in red, white and blue.
The phrase is a sectarian slur used against Catholics.
The girl's mother said her daughter was among several children who had the phrase painted on their faces at a party, the Irish News reported.
She told the paper she was not at the party, and dismissed concerns her children were being raised to hate Catholics.
"All I say is I have friends and family from both sides of the community," she told the Irish News.
A PSNI spokesman said: "Police have received a report, enquiries will be carried out to establish if any offences have been committed."
Alliance MP Naomi Long said the image was "utterly depressing and shocking".
